Desire to purchase
Model, 19” x 13”

In this project, I explored what kinds of factors stimulate consumption and the purchase of a product, and I discover that people’s desire has a very strong effect on the purchase. When people imagine themselves in society, it’s very powerful. They compare themselves and others, and they are able to envision the product better in a new scenario. Advertising can help create this kind of self-image. After people purchase the new product, they can feel a true sense of self-satisfaction about becoming socialized, even though they may not actually become a part of the social group they originally desired to. To demonstrate this situation, I developed a model using the outside of a store because this image of a store’s window creates a more direct connection between people’s desire and motivation to make the purchase.
